In january we launched our yearly contest in coöperation with Switch. As the months passed by demo cd's arrrived, showcasing electro, mashup, breakcore, minimal, techno, house and goa. A week ago we hit the magic number of 200 cd's. Now, one week later, we're closing the contest with over 400 participants. The postman couldnt handle the mail with his bike, so he had to bring the demo's seperately by car. One time he even left us his postbag:
The registration of participants is over now. You can find the full list on silenced.be. If you have send us your demo on time, but you cant find your name in the list, there are three possible explanations:
1. we were confused concerning your artist name -for example taking your real name or mixname as your djname. in that case you should check the list for this kind of mistake.
2. you've send your postpacket "aangetekend" and it still didnt arrive. then you should send us a mail and we'll look into it.
3. your demo got lost by the post. in that case you've just been screwed really bad = no possible solutions for you.
During the past months we listened to alot of demo's, but these days we dont do much else besides listening. It's a tough job, but it's also fun. We (the silenced crew) are making the preselection, preparing for the final jury at the VRT building. We've already heard alot of spectacular demo cd's so we expect to end up with a bunch of very skilled artists. We feel honoured with this opportunity to help the biggest talents get the bookings and recognition they deserve.
I'm sorry to say we won't be able to give feedback on these 400 cd's. Artists have been mailing and writing us, asking what we liked and disliked about their mix. We really cant start answering these kind of questions. We try to make an objective decision based on mixing skills, music taste, structural insight and originality. Discussing this with the other silenced crew members is quite often a difficult proces, so you might imagine we can't discuss this with each one of you.
Thank you all, for your massive participation. May the best win.
